dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to investigate the causes and effects of poor academic performance in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination in Public Secondary Schools in Kangundo division of Kangundo District. The sample was drawn from 5 public secondary schools. Fifty teachers were picked randomly from each of the five schools. Data for the study were collected using a questionnaire which had both open and closed ended questions. The data collected was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Frequencies and percentages were used to summarize and analyze the data collected. The study recommended that the government increase allocation of funds ,to provide more facilities, parents be sensitized on the need to make education of their children a priority, students to be guided and counselled on the effects of poor performance while teachers to be motivated to perform their duties more efficiently and effectively.en
