dc.description.abstractCompetitive strategy comprises of all those moves and approaches that a firm has and is taking to attract buyers, withstand competitive pressure and improve its market position. It concerns what a firm is doing in order to gain a sustainable competitive advantage. This study therefore sought to find out the competitive strategies of Health Maintenance Organizations in Nairobi. The objective of the study was to establish the competitive strategies of Health Maintenance Organizations in Nairobi. The study adopted a descriptive design in its methodology. Stratified sampling was adopted for this study. In this study all the 13 Health Maintenance Organizations in Nairobi were involved in the study. Primary data was collected by questionnaire method. The result of the study showed that the major competitive strategies of by HMOs within the city include; being low cost leaders, having excellent customer service, training of staff, effective recruiting policies and better facilities. On the other hand HMOs also used their subscription fees to achieve competitive advantage; include fees based on client category and fees being similar but of better value.en
