A Retrospective Study Of Transurethral Resection Of Prostate At Kenyatta National Hospital (July 1996-June 2000).
Abstract
A total of 472 patients had protatectomy during the four year period (July 1996-June
2000). 333 (70.6%) had open prostatectomy and 139 (29.-+%) had transurethral resection
of prostate (TURP).
There was no significant increase in the annual distribution of TURP whereas there was a
gradual increase in the number of open prostatectomies performed over the study period.
Though morbidity following TURP was much higher, it's mortality was comparable to
other studies.
The re-operation rate following TURP was comparable to other reported series.
The mortality rate of open prostatectomy was almost double that of TURP
