Ventilatory function of asthhate children in stable state seen at Kenyatta National Hospital
Abstract
Ninety-one asthamatic children aged 5-13 years and 92 controls matched for age and sex were systematically selected to perform ventilatory Dctiontests.
There was a highly significant difference between patients and controls before and after exercise using PEFR and FEV1% parameters. FEV1 and FVC showed no marked difference between
patients and controls but a statistically significant difference with the patients- after.Males ~urned out to have better ventilatory function than females.PEFR is recommended as the most reliable parameter. Spirometric parameters FVC and FEV1 are recommended as useful for £0110\'1 up of asthmatic patients on treatment.
