The use of traditional and herbal medicines has continued to grow globally. One particular herbal medicinal product, Enzoy has continued to gain widespread popularity as a remedy for self-medicated treatment of infertility and impotence. The effects of Enzoy were investigated on isolated perfused rabbit heart and jejunum whereby the organic extract was administered and found to exhibit spontaneous rhythmic contractions. The administration of organic extract of Enzoy (OEE) at different concentrations of 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 8.0 mg/ml respectively on isolated perfused rabbit heart caused a decrease in the number and amplitude of contractions. A dose of3.2 (± 0.34) mg/ml caused a 50% change in the number of contractions and a dose of 0.70 (± 0.51) mg/ml caused a similar change in the amplitude of contractions (p< 0.05). High concentrations of 4.0 and 8.0 mg/ml significantly inhibited both in the number and amplitude of heart contractions (p< 0.05), while. Low concentrations 0.5 and 1.0 mg/ml of OEE caused significant decrease in the amplitude of contractions (p< 0.05) but no significant decrease in the number of contractions occurred. Similarly on the isolated rabbit jejunum the different concentrations were 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.8 mg/ml, which caused a decrease in the number and amplitude of contractions with a dose of 0.22 (± 0.04) mg/ml and 0.05 (±0.01) mg/ml being particularly potent (p< 0.05). Similarly high concentrations (0.2, 0.4, and 0.8) mg/ml of OEE decreased significantly inhibited (p< 0.05) both in the number and amplitude of jejunum contractions. Low concentrations (0.1 and 0.05 mg/ml) of OEE caused a significant decrease in the amplitude of contractions but no significant decrease in the number of jejunum contractions occurred. The decrease in the number and amplitude of contractions caused by OEE on the isolated heart and jejunum preparations respectively shows marked relaxation of cardiac and smooth muscle cells. OEE caused a parasympathomimetic effect on the heart since it caused an inhibitory effect on the number and amplitude of contractions. On the isolated jejunum OEE caused a sympathomimetic effect by producing inhibitory effect on both the number and amplitude of contractions.en
