Taita Hills Association
Abstract
The focus of this paper is on the Taita Hills Association It is
the Story of how the Wataita reacted to the imposition of Colonialism
and its subsequent economic exploitation. In order to give a coherent
account of the whole movement, it was found necessary to give a rather
long study of certain important aspects of Taita economy, land
alienations and protest politics before the rise of THA.
The first Chapter discusses the geographical location, rainfall,
vegetation and land use. These aspects are related to two major themes -
population growth and land use within sit District before the rise of THA.
Chapter two deals specifically with land alienation in Kenya as a
whole and in particular to Taita District.
Th third Chapter outlines the nature of the struggl between tb
Wa taita and the Colonial Government. or the purpose of this study the
Colonial Government has en taken to mean both Foreign Office and the
Colonial Office which took control over Kenya from I.B.E.A. Co. in 1895.
Chapter our is a close examination of the rise of THA, its Aims
and leadership, it finances and its activities; particularly the
combination of its activities with the Voi strike.
