In order to give a coherent account of the whole movement, it was found necessary to give a rather long study of certain important aspects of Taita economy, land alienations and protest politics before the rise of THA. The first Chapter discusses the geographical location, rainfall, vegetation and land use. These aspects are related to two major themes - population growth and land use within sit District before the rise of THA. Chapter two deals specifically with land alienation in Kenya as a whole and in particular to Taita District. Th third Chapter outlines the nature of the struggl between tb Wa taita and the Colonial Government. or the purpose of this study the Colonial Government has en taken to mean both Foreign Office and the Colonial Office which took control over Kenya from I.B.E.A. Co. in 1895. Chapter our is a close examination of the rise of THA, its Aims and leadership, it finances and its activities; particularly the combination of its activities with the Voi strike.en
