The findings of a 10-year retrospective study (January 1978 to December 1987) carried out at the General Surgical Units, Kenyatta National Hospital are presented. 82 patients with 89 episodes of stone disease were studied. An annual incidence of 8.9 was recorded. The sex ratio was 4.5:1 male:female. Pain, dysuria, frequency, retention, infection and haematuria are quite common. Most stones are in the bladder.
