A review of 56 cases of Intracranial Meningioma seen at Kenyatta National Hospital between 1974 and 1979
Abstract
62 intracranial meningiomas were operated at the
Kenyatta National Hospital Neurosurgical Unit between
1974 and 1979. All except one patient were of African
origin. 56 patients whose records were complete are analysed.
Their presentation was similar to those seen elsewhere in
the world, except in two respects. First there was male
preponderance which is probably the results of the study
being in a selected population. Secondly the majority of
the turnours occurred on the left side. Operative mortality
rate of 39% was high. In majority of cases the follow up
did not exceed 6 months.
