dc.description.abstractPuberty and adolescence are stage riddled with many physiological, social and emotional changes in human growth and development. It is also a time rife with anxiety, self-consciousness and awareness of one's surroundings. The person is highly impression and liable to make wrong blue choices if not well guided and counseled. Guidance and counseling has therefore assumed great significance in schools, especially secondary schools, in responding to the difficulties and problems associated with teenage stress and- changes. The study thus sought to establish how student in all Public Secondary schools in Matungulu Division, perceived this all - important services. To this end, specific objectives for the study were arrived at, as were the hypotheses. Sufficient literature was reviewed that helped to concretize the problem under study. The literature developed into the history of the guidance and Counseling its role in schools and society, factors hindering effective rendering of the service and lastly how students perceived it. Data was gathered through the use of the students' questionnaire, a teachers' interview guide and occasional discussions with a few of the respondents. The instruments were protested and their validity established as quite adequate. The spearman brown prophesy formula was to calculate reliability. In addition, consultation and advice mainly from the supervisor was incorporated to increase the validity and reliability. The questionnaire and interview return rate was 100%for each. Averages, frequencies and percentages were employed in data analysis while ANOV A an percentages were used to test the hypotheses. After detailed discussions of the findings of the study, recommendations were as well as suggestions for further study. This study therefore contributes to the expansion of knowledge in the area of counseling and guidance in schools, especially its management and access to studentsen
