The purpose of this study was to investigate primary school teachers' perceptions towards Bachelor of Education parallel degree programme in teacher development in Kabete District. The study had five objectives; to asses the influence of teachers' age, gender and marital status on B.Ed parallel degree programme, to establish the influence of B.Ed parallel degree programme on teachers' professional development, to examine the influence of B.Ed parallel degree on teacher-characteristics, to identify the challenges facing teachers in B.Ed parallel degree programme as well as examine the extent to which B.Ed parallel degree has influenced teaching and learning activities in primary schools in Kabete District, Kenya. Descriptive survey research design was used hence it was appropriate in collecting information about teachers' attitudes, opinions, habits and variables of Educational and social issues in the current status of phenomena. Simple random method of sampling was used to select 11 public primary schools out of the total 55, as well as selecting eleven TSC employed teachers from each school as the study respondents from Kabete District. Data was collected using questionnaires for the Teachers and interview schedule for the Headteachers. To establish whether the instruments were valid and reliable, a pilot study was carried out. The results of the pilot study were used in making modifications for the instruments. The findings of the study revealed that age, gender, marital status as well as financial strains among primary school teachers in, Kabete District affect the rate of enrollment of PI certificate teachers, into B.Ed parallel degree programme. It is evident that primary school teachers who train in B.Ed parallel degree programme improve their pedagogical skills. This in turn improves teaching and learning activities in primary schools thus promoting educational status at school and later society level. At personal levels, these teachers improve their socio-economic status hence are more encouraged to teach. This results in high quality output which is a recipe for better performance by learners, promotion of education standards and development of the country's socio-economic status. In order for more primary school teachers to enroll into B.Ed parallel degree programme, the ~ MoE and the Universities should also organize awareness programmes. They should also introduce more flexible financial assistance programmes like bursaries, scholarships and low interest loan packages to teachers in B.Ed parallel degree programmes.en_US
