A Report On The Assessment Of The Impact Of Hiv And Aids In The Port Of Durban, South Africa
Abstract
The aim of this study was to assess the impact of t
he HIV and AIDS epidemic on the port of Durban and
to recommend sustainable policies and programs for
dealing more effectively with the epidemic.
Evidence showed that many companies operating withi
n Durban port recognize the inextricable link
between HIV/AIDS, declining productivity, rising pr
oduction costs and declining profits, and that earl
y
investments in education and prevention campaigns,
can considerably reduce the spread of HIV among
workers, their families and local communities. Many
companies studied in the port of Durban have an
HIV/AIDS policy, provide HIV prevention education,
care and support and are implementing fair
employment practices
