dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study was to assess the impact of t he HIV and AIDS epidemic on the port of Durban and to recommend sustainable policies and programs for dealing more effectively with the epidemic. Evidence showed that many companies operating withi n Durban port recognize the inextricable link between HIV/AIDS, declining productivity, rising pr oduction costs and declining profits, and that earl y investments in education and prevention campaigns, can considerably reduce the spread of HIV among workers, their families and local communities.
