| dc.description.abstract | Risky behaviours are an assortment of several activities which are considered to be antisocial and more often presents negative effects to the perpetrators. In many cases, such practices cut across all ages but the vulnerability peaks at adolescence. This research attempted to ascertain the factors whose interplay predisposes day school students in boys' secondary schools to risky behaviour. Particularly, this study targeted male day school students between 14-21 years of age. As such, the study sought to explore the extent to which the factors are predominant in urban secondary schools with a clear focus on boy secondary schools in Kisumu Municipality. From a sample of 192 day students, from two boys' day secondary schools in the municipality, this study endeavoured to ascertain the daily parameters of their school life and how such factors affect their lives.
The research involved the analysis of secondary information and primary data collected in the study area with the help of questionnaires. Statistical package for social science (SPSS) was used to analyze the data. The study concluded that unprotected sex was the main risky behaviour that students had involved in mostly during school holidays. The study also concluded that friends and access to pornographic materials have a great influence on students' behaviour where friends and adult female friends provide them with money. Further the study concluded that TV greatly influences students behaviour in engaging in precarious behaviour.
The study recommended that learning institution to participate in enlightening the student on the consequences of risky behaviour such as having unprotected sex in order to mitigate spread of STD and AIDS. Further the study recommended the guardian to give advise to their children during the holiday so as not to engage in precarious behaviour from their colleagues'. | en_US |
