The findings of first-trimester ultrasound scans are analyzed. The patients were divided into two groups according to the reliability of their alleged date of last menstrual period and the regularity of their menstrual cycle. The cost-effectiveness of a routine first trimester scan as compared to a selective approach is calculated. Based on these data we question the performance of a routine first-trimester scan.en
