dc.description.abstractOver the last decade there has been a dramatic growth in the number of NGOs involved in development aid, in. both developed and developing countries. The total amount of public funds being spent through NGOs has grown dramatically and the proportion of development aid going through NGOs, relative to bilateral or multilateral agencies, has also increased. Associated with this growth has been a growing concern about identifying the achievements of NGOs. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of implementation of monitoring and evaluation on performance of NGO projects in Kisii municipality. The objectives of the study were to identify the nature of the implementation of monitoring and evaluation on performance ofNGO projects in Kisii municipality, to determine the extent of the implementation of monitoring and evaluation on performance of NGO projects in Kisii municipality and to determine effectiveness of the implementation of monitoring and evaluation on performance of NGO projects in Kisii municipality. The Study adopted a descriptive survey design .The target population comprised 30 NGO's from Kisii municipality. Simple random sampling was> used to select the respondents who are managers of the NGOs. The study sample comprised three managers. Questionnaires and Interviews were employed in collecting the data. The questionnaire was piloted in NGO's outside Kisii municipality and a split-half method used with the aim of assessing the reliability while validity of the research instrument was done through the expert advice of the supervisors and members of the department of Educational studies University of Nairobi. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics- such as mean, distributions in percentages and frequency counts. Inferential statistics such as the one- Way analysis of variance was applied. Qualitative data was recorded from field! data, transcribed and reported in themes and sub.themes. The adequacy and effectiveness of monitoring and evaluation of the projects implemented were identified by the respondents. Recommendations of the study are; It is recommended that M&E Planning be addressed, objectives that are in line with the strategy, are time bound and measurable be created, It is also recommended that the experience of NGO managers be addressed and these programs could also play a role in modifying the management of the NGO' s, explore their challenges, needs, and how they think other people perceive them, It is recommended that the government addresses the lack of skills and abilities NGO Managers have and aid them in seeing that data recorded is reported in a systemic manner. Finally, it is recommended that training programs be conducted to highlight the importance of M & E in project success.en_US
