The headteacher's role is to promote academic performance. The objectives of this study were to determine how resource management affect academic performance and establishing if timetabling affects academic performance, in addition the study wanted to establish practices used to motivate teachers for improvement of academic performance, furthermore the study investigated the extent to which record maintenance affect academic performance and establishing how staffmg level affects academic performance in West lands District, Nairobi Province. From the literature review internal supervision is the provision of professional and instructional guidance in order to achieve the educational objectives ofthe school. Past research findings found high correlation between educational resource management and student academic performance. High quality education requires the use of educational resources such as teachers, books, buildings and equipments as well as historical records. The literature further stated that headteachers supervise teachers' work by inspecting records such as schemes of work, lesson books, records of work covered, class attendance records, and clock in clock out book. The headmaster has to ensure that the right number of teachers with the relevant qualifications have been recruited in the school. This study adopted the descriptive survey design. Twenty five (25) headteachers were selected by census while purposively sampling 50 form four class teachers from schools with at least a double stream. Fifty (50) HODs were sampled using stratified random sampling. To collect data, a set of semi-structured questionnaires was used. Before the actual data collection, piloting of questionnaires and the interview guide were done on two secondary schools in Westlands district, which did not participate in the actual study. To establish the reliability of the instrument, the researcher used the test-retest where the second test administration was done one week after the first one. The structured questions were used in order to get specific information while unstructured questionnaires were used in order to allow respondents to express their feelings and opinion. Permits to conduct the research were obtained from the National Council of Science and Technology. The consent to conduct research was sought from District Commissioner Westlands District. The study generated both qualitative and quantitative data. For the quantitative data, analysis of the data was done through descriptive statistics by use of frequencies and percentages and averages. The qualitative data was first organized into themes corresponding to the study objectives. From the study it can be concluded that, the headteacher as a supervisor has great roles to play in achieving the desired KCSE performance through supervision. The findings indicated that, management of learning resources greatly affects KCSE perfomance. The school timetable as an administrative device was found effective and contributing largely to good KCSE performance by effective time mangement and providing remedial classes where necessary. The teachers should be appreciated through recognition, monetary appreciations as well as enhanced flexibility and good working condition. The headteachers have to ensure that the right number of teachers with the relevant qualifications have been recruited in the school by forwarding annual staff returns to the relevant authorities who include among others the Teachers Service Commission. Headteacher should always supervise teachers' work by inspecting records such as schemes of work, lesson books, records of work covered, class attendance records, and clock in/clock out book. The researcher therefore recommends that, headteacher' should attend management training on how to handle resources by the government since it is critical to the performance of the school. Headteachers should always involve teachers in construction of timetables so that they are no collision of classes. Headteachers should introduce ways of motivating teachers so that they are utilized to the capacity. This would include introduction of monetary appreciation based on their performance, At the same time, headteachers should always get involved in decision governing the kind of instructional activities provided, number of personnel needed, sizes of instructional groups, length of instructional periods, staff work load and assignment of duties appropriate to staff interests, training and ability.en_US
