dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study was to analyze the factors influencing allocation of constituency bursaries in promoting participation in public secondary schools in Isiolo district. Descriptive survey research design was used with target population of 8 public secondary schools, 8 principals, all the CBF and CDF committee members plus 2,229 students in public secondary schools in Isiolo district. Stratified sampling method was used to select the sample size of the population of 8 principals, 4 CDF committee, 4 CBF committee members, and 440 students making a total of 456 respondents as the sample size ofthe total population. Simple random sampling was used to get the sample size of the students. Questionnaires for principals, students, and an interview schedule for the CDF and CBF committees and a checklist method were used to collect data. The questionnaires were validated through appraisal from the supervisors and education administration experts from the department and then subjected to a pilot study. The instrument was tested for reliability through test-retest technique and reliability coefficient was 0.876. Qualitative data was analyzed in narrative forms. Quantitative data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and recorded with totals, percentages and tables were used to represent data findings from the study with the assistance of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) programme. The findings of the study were that prudent management and allocation of bursary to the needy students in lsiolo district will assist to a great extent in ensuring that those students who are bright and would never had a chance of a decent education and life, access education. When awarded bursary, students will be motivated to work hard in school with the knowledge that the bursary committees will reward their effort. The recommendations made by this study were that the Ministry of Education should strive to ensure high student turnover in the ASAL regions of Kenya by allocating more bursary funds to facilitate smooth and uninterrupted education for the children in these areas. The Ministry of Education need to encourage more enrolment of girls in schools to rectify the discrepancies witnessed in the ASAL regions of Kenya by allocating more bursary funds and facilities for girl's education. The conclusion ofthe study was that prudent management of the bursary fund in Isiolo district was the key to ensuring that deserving students were helped in achieving their educational needs. For the district to achieve its educational targets a lot of emphases need to be implemented in the straightening of the bursary award process.en_US
