The purpose of this study was to survey the availability and utilization of learning materials in pre-schoo1s of Suneka Zone. The study examines the background on the importance of using learning materials in learning. The literature review provided the theoretical basis for conducting this study, which emphasizes the use of learning materials to pedagogical strategies for effective learning. The literature review focused on empirical research on implications of using learning materials on children's learning. A sample of 14 pre-schools both private and public were identified and used including their head teachers and teachers where random sampling was done to identify the same. Data were collected using three instruments majorly questionnaires, interviews and observation schedules. The data obtained were analysed using a descriptive statistics and the results were presented in tables, percentages and ratios. The major findings revealed that few pre-schools were keen on using learning materials. Traditional methods of direct instruction were commonly used instead of using learning materials to enhance participatory and project learning. The study also established that learning materials were used especially by teachers who had some training and indeed in such centres where teachers used learning materials, significant. Learning was evident. Lack of LIM in most, centres was attributed to lack of awareness on importance of learning materials especially by parent and teachers experience in the utilization of the same. Based on these findings, it was recommended that pre-schools should be equipped with many learning materials by all stakeholders. Teachers need to be in-serviced and updated regularly on use of LIM for effective teaching learning process and improving their pedagogical strategies. To embrace the idea the government should provide a clear policy framework on Early Childhood Education and consider ECE in the mainstream of Education just like Free Primary Education. This will enable ECE centres to access LIM and cut costs on LIM placed on parents and teachers. The study was guided by the constructivist theories of learning especially by Jean Piagets theory of learning.en_US
