dc.description.abstractSince the introduction of FPE funding in Kenya, physical facilities in public schools remains the major impeding factor to the achievement of overall effectiveness in public schools.the purpose of this study was to to establish the influence of provision of the Free Primary Education (F.P .E) programme on infrastructure development in public primary schools in Western Division of Nakuru Municipality Kenya. This study was carried out in public primary schools within Western Division of Nakuru Municipality amongst Head Teachers and Chairpersons of the School Management Committe. In addresing the specific objectives, The study established whether the nature of F.P.E funding has influence on infrastructure development in public primary schools in Western Division of Nakuru Municipality; identified the extent to which enrolment due to FPE has influenced infrastructure development in public primary schools; finding out if the community's perception on FPE has influenced infrastructure development in public primary schools; established whether diversification in FPE funding has influenced infrastructure in public primary schools in Western Division of Nakuru Municipality. The study adopted the descriptive research survey design. Purposive sampling technique was used in the selection of the study , sample. A study sample size of 24 Head teachers and 24 Chairpersons of the School Management Committe was used for the study. Data was collected from the respondents by use of questionnaires containing structured and unstructured questions, Data collected was analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Microsoft Excel software. Descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages) were computed. The findings were then presented in the form of tables for easier interpretation. The findings revealed that The nature of F.P.E funding had a negative influence on infrastructure development in public primary schools in Western Division of Nakuru Municipality; Enrolment due to FPE had negatively influenced infrastructure development to a very large extent in public primary schools in Western Division of Nakuru Municipality; and that the community's perception on FPE greatly influenced infrastructure development in public primary schools in Western Division of Nakuru Municipality. The school head teachers and school management committee chairpersons made various suggestions, but the most stressed were money for RMI to be increased; the funding to the schools should be increased a vote to be created to take care of construction as per the school needs. Following the findings the study recommended that the Government of Kenya should consider increasing FPE allocations for repairs and maintenance on the basis of individual school needs; should consider organizing stakeholders' sensitization workshops to address the aspect of negative attitudes of parents; and should also consider separation of building money from repair money, and increase allocation of the building money. This study brings to light information regarding the effect of FPE on infrastructural development and thus, the basis upon which the Government of Kenya and interested stakeholders can strategize to address the issues emerging from the study.en_US
