This research project sought to establish the factors influencing the implementation of construction projects in public secondary schools in Gucha South District, Kisii County. The purpose of this study was to establish the factors influencing the implementation of construction projects in public secondary schools in Gucha South District. The study was guided by the following objectives: to establish the extent to which competency of principals in project management influence implementation of construction projects in public secondary schools in Gucha South District; to assess the extent to which stakeholders' involvement influence the implementation of construction projects in public secondary schools in Gucha South. District; to identify the effect of funding in the implementation of construction projects; to explore the extent to which availability of skilled labour influence the implementation of construction projects in public secondary schools in Gucha South District, Kisii County. In chapter one the researcher looked into the significance of the study, its limitations and delimitations, its basic assumptions and definition of significant terms used in the variables of the study. The second chapter reviewed literature related to the variables under study. The purpose of the literature was to establish the foundation for the study and identify a framework upon which primary data was contextualizedand interpreted. The literature was arranged under the following headings: project management concept, characteristics of projects, competency of project managers, availability of funds for projects, stakeholders' involvement in implementation of construction projects, availability of skilled labour, and theoretical framework. In chapter three the researcher used a survey design for data collection from a target population of 42 public secondary schools. All the 42 principals and 42 P.T.A chairmen were selected because the population was small. Validity and reliability of research instruments was done by piloting and test-retest technique. Data was administered by the researcher after obtaining permission from the ministry of higher education (Department of Research). The collected data was analyzed using Likert scale for rating the respondents' responses on factors which influence the implementation of construction projects in public secondary schools in Gucha South District, Kisii County. In chapter four the researcher covered data analysis, presentation of analyzed data, interpretation and discussion of analyzed data based on the objectives of the study. Chapter five gives a summary of findings of analyzed data, conclusions and recommendations of the study. The findings indicated that stakeholders; participation in project implementation was important. The findings also indicated that schools got funds for their projects mainly through C.D.F and parents. Funds were necessary for the implementation of projects. Also skilled labour was necessary for project implementation thus majority used skilled labour for their construction. Finally, the findings indicated that project managers' skills of management were necessary in implementing construction projects. The study recommended that principals should be trained on project management. The stakeholders should also be involved in all phases of the project. It was also recommended that other sources of funding should be sought and skilled labour used to enhance project implementation.en_US
