Factors influencing implementation of school feeding program in public day seccondary schools in Bobasi Constituency; Kenya
Abstract
This research study investigated factors influencing implementation of school feeding program in public day secondary schools in Bobasi constituency. The research study was conducted in Bobasi constituency. There were 47 public day secondary schools in Bobasi Constituency. Sample size comprised of fifteen head teachers in public day secondary schools that implement school feeding program and 240 students in the 15 selected schools. Research questions were used whereby the first question was used to capture data on the influence of school management on implementation of school feeding program in public day secondary schools.
The second one aimed at collecting data on the influence of funding on the implementation of school feeding program while the third was to collect data on the influence of personnel on implementation of school feeding. Lastly, the fourth question sought to inquire on how students' .attitudes influence implementation of school feeding program in public day secondary schools in Bobasi Constituency. The study reviewed literature in relation to school feeding program implementation. The study used questionnaires as research tools to collect data. The questionnaires were of two categories; those meant to collect data from head teachers and the other from students. Observation method was also used to collect data on factors influencing implementation of school feeding program in public day secondary schools in Bobasi constituency.
The study used a descriptive survey design. Data was collected, classified, compared, analyzed and then interpreted using descriptive statistical methods like frequencies and percentages. Tabulation method of data presentation was used. The results were used to draw conclusions on factors influencing implementation of school feeding program in public day secondary schools based on research objectives. It was realized from the study that school management, funding, personnel and attitudes of students influenced implementation of school feeding programs in Bobasi Constituency. However, the study recommended the construction of dining rooms for learners to use after serving food to avoid effects of adverse weather conditions.
