dc.description.abstractSocio-economic status is basically the social standing of an individual in the society. The purpose of this project was to analyze the factors that influence women's socio-economic status in Kabarnet municipality. In order to accomplish this study, the objectives were: To evaluate the influence of education on socio-economic status of women, to examine how cultural factors influence women's socio-economic status, to assess the influence of formal employment on women's socio-economic status, to establish the influence of participation in business activities on women's socio-economic status and finally to assess the influence of marital status on women's socio-economic status. This study was also supported by a comprehensive literature review section in chapter two. In addition, this study used a descriptive survey design. Cross-sectional data was collected with a sample size of 375 women from a population of 15,000 women in three sub-locations within Kabarnet municipality. Data was collected by use of questionnaires and was analyzed by using SPSS computer software. Descriptive statistics (frequencies and percentages) were computed. The findings were then presented in tables. The major findings of the study indicated that access to education, formal employment, participation in business activities and marital status were the major factors that influenced women's socio-economic status in Kabarnet municipality. The key recommendation given in the study was that the government needed to do more to deal with the ever-increasing incidence of poverty, especially as it affected women. In this regard, education, formal employment, access to credit facilities from financial lenders were some of the excellent tools suggested for effecting the required change. The study also cited some areas for further research. These areas were: A study on the role played by technology in the improvement of the socio-economic status of women, A study to investigate the measures adopted by women in local communities towards raising their socio-economic status, A study to establish the Link between gender inequalities and economic development and A study to assess the efficiency of administrative systems and impact of Women Enterprise and Development Fund in all counties and constituencies in the country.en_US
