The background of this study assessed the influence of safe water and sanitation facilities on the health of slum dwellers and if addressed effectively can improve the health of Nyalenda slum dwellers within the Informal settlement, Kisumu City; this can be in line with the global perspective where some developed countries like Britain amongst others have managed to provide clean water and good sanitation for almost all the citizens. The statement of the problem indicates that in many parts of developing world, inadequacy of clean water and sanitation remains a serious challenge in the twenty first century. Lack of access to safe water and adequate sanitation facilities are global priority problems with over 900 million people lacking sanitation. As a result of rapid urbanization in the context of economic constraints, the majority of urban residents in sub-Saharan Africa now live in slums often characterized by a lack of basic services such as water and sewerage. Consequently, the urban poor often use inexpensive pit latrines and at the same time may draw domestic water from nearby wells; even though some developed countries like Britain have managed to provide clean water and good sanitation for almost all the citizens. The purpose of the study was to investigate the influence of safe water and sanitation facilities on the health ofNyalenda slum dwellers, Kisumu city; by determining how water supply and sanitation services as a component to safe water and sanitation facilities influence the health of slums dwellers in Nyalenda informal settlement in Kisumu city; assessing how community participation and perception as a component to safe water and sanitation facilities influence health of slum dwellers in Nyalenda informal settlement in Kisumu City; exploring how water and sanitation delivery as a component to safe water and sanitation facilities influence the health of slum dwellers in Nyalenda informal settlement in Kisumu City; determining how the community satisfaction with current intervention as a component to safe water and sanitation facilities influence the health of slum dwellers in Nyalenda informal settlement in Kisumu City. The study employed qualitative research design. The study determined that there was dirty, unclean and inadequate water supply and poor sanitation services as a component to safe water and sanitation facilities which negatively influenced the health of slums dwellers in Nyalenda informal settlement in Kisumu city; the study assessed that there was less community participation and low perception as a component to safe water and sanitation facilities which negatively influenced health of slum dwellers in Nyalenda informal settlement in Kisumu City, the study explored how poor water and sanitation delivery as a component to safe water and sanitation facilities negatively influenced the health of slum dwellers in Nyalenda informal settlement in Kisumu City, and the study determined how determining community dissatisfaction with current intervention as a component to safe water and sanitation facilities negatively influenced the health of slum dwellers in Nyalenda informal settlement in Kisumu City. The study concluded that there should be more effective and sustainable projects on clean water supply and sanitation delivery, communities' perceptions and attitudes should be changed, effective plans for clean water distribution and good sanitation delivery should be introduced and more water points constructed, equipping the hospitals with necessary equipments; to improve on the health ofNyalenda slum dwellers. The study suggested further research on challenges faced by various agencies implementing intervention projects on safe water, sanitation and deworming services delivery to the slum dwellers. The study also contributed to the body of knowledge based on the four objectives.en_US
