dc.description.abstract | The purpose of the study was to investigate the school factors that affect the teaching and
leaming of Preschool children in ECDE centres in Kangemi slums Westlands District Nairobi.
Descriptive survey research design was used to gather information about the teaching and
learning situations in the ECDE centres in both public non informal and private preschool in this
district The respondents were simple randomly sampled. Variables employed in the study were
Early Childhood Education, support from community supervisors and inspection by beadteachers, good facilities and the preschool teachers.
The research study found that most ECDE centres in Kangemi slums received very little support
from the community. That is why it was found that there are no good facilities for learning.
Headteachers also don't bother with ECDE issues in this area of study. These calls for the
government and the Early Childhood stakeholders to sensitize the community about the
importance -of Early Childhood Education. The government should embark on employing the ECDE teachers and if possible make this Early Childhood education free like other levels of
education (Primary and Secondary education).
The study calls for other investigators to carry out more research on the same issue and by the
use of a different research design and in other Districts of this county and compare their findings
with this one. This will ensure that the children in such circumstances are helped to receive their
basic education adequately. | en_US |
