| dc.description.abstract | Vocational training centers are continuing to train women in kilifi district and the women acquire the vocational skill but they have not fully utilized these skills to initiate entrepreneurship projects. The women are continuing to train despite the ones who have already acquired the skill having not initiated any entrepreneurial project. A cross examination of the challenges facing the women with vocational skills in comparison with various literature of studies done within the women entrepreneurship shows that indeed the entrepreneur education, economic status, socio-cultural factors and personal characteristics are a key influence.
This study sought to explore the influence of vocational skills toward the initiation of entrepreneurial projects in Kilifi County. The study was conducted using descriptive survey. The data was collected using questionnaires and focus group discussion. 560 women were the target populations with a sample size of 232 women, out of the 232 sample size 222 questionnaires were responded to. A content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative responses, while descriptive statistics was used to analyze quantitative data. The research findings revealed that the training period, social cultural and personal characteristic influence the initiation of entrepreneurial project in kilifi District.
The finding also revealed thatfor the women to be able to initiate entrepreneurial project the training period has to be for a year and above. The study recommends the introduction of more work-based learning and linking trainees with mentors to gain experience of a specific trade like integrated business, self-employment and entrepreneurial concepts into training activities, especially' in follow-up phases, and search for trainers with relevant backgrounds and familiarity with both the formal and informal sector. The researcher believes that the present study will help to guide the Ngo's offering vocational training on what to improve or implement so that the trainee are able to benefit through proper guidance towards starting up entrepreneurial projects. | en_US |
