School infrastructure is a key base for learning in schools. School infrastructure include classrooms, laboratories for the science practical, the halls and open fields for games, r games equipment, dormitories, sanitation facilities and others. It is in the classrooms that the , day to day formal teaching and learning take place, in the libraries, learners get the opportunity to conduct their own personal studies or research as the resource materials are found therein, it is in the fields that extra-curricular activities take place, learners and teachers need to be housed in the school and at the same time need sanitation facilities like toilets, waste disposal services and clean water etc. For this reason, school infrastructure is a very important component in ensuring successful education. It is a fact that schools vary in the kinds of infrastructure they have put in place to enable learning for quality Education. The purpose of this study therefore was to establish the impact of school infrastructure on the provision of quality education in public secondary schools in Nyakach District. The study was guided by four objectives namely: to establish the impact of teaching and learning infrastructure on the provision of quality education in public secondary schools of Nyakach District, to establish the impact of curricular support infrastructure on the provision of quality education in public secondary schools of Nyakach District, to establish the impact of school sanitation facilities on the provision of quality education in public secondary schools in Nyakach District and to determine the extent to which school co-curricular infrastructure impact on the provision of quality education in public secondary schools of Nyakach District. Descriptive survey design was used as a blue print that guided the study. Descriptive survey design was suitable for the study because it seeks to describe aspects of a study as they are during the time of conducting a study. The target population was 48 secondary schools in Nyakach District, 3361 form three students and 48 Principals. The total sample size was 351 respondents distributed proportionately under the following categories: 339 form three students and 12 principals. The study involved both quantitative and qualitative data. Quantitative data was analyzed through descriptive statistics such as the frequency distributions and measures of central tendencies such as means, modes and standard deviations. Tables were used to present the findings of the analysis and there after the findings of the analysis presented in a report. The data was analyzed with the aid of SPSS and Microsoft excel. The study found that improved academic achievement was associated with more adequate classroom sizes, improved locker spaces, proper stocking of libraries, adequate science laboratories, adequate computer laboratories, adequacy of sanitation facilities, adequate water supply, adequate toilet facilities, improved participation in co-curricular activities and adequacy of co-curricular facilities. For instance of the 11 schools in the study, 8 (72.73%) got the average mean scores of below 4 points, 2 (1 &.18%) had between 4 and 6 points while 1 (9.09%) school had over 6 points in KCSE. The one school that attained over 6 points had adequate classrooms, libraries, laboratories and water supply. On the other hand among the 8 schools that had attained the low grades of below 4 points in KCSE, 6 (75%) had inadequate classrooms, 4 (50%) did not have libraries, 4 (50%) schools had adequate water in the school and 4 (50%) schools had inadequate co - curriculum activities. The study recommended that the M.O.E. should introduce the sharing of special rooms such as the Library, laboratories and computer room among neighbour schools and that the head teachers should ensure the number of toilets are adequate, kept clean and uphold privacy. The study suggested that a study to establish the extent of provision of school infrastructure development be carried out, the study also suggested that a similar study needs to be conducted in an urban setup so as to provide data generalized across a broader spectrum.en_US
