| dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to assess the contribution of the economic stimulus funding on head teachers' provision of instructional infrastructure in public secondary schools, in Kisii County, Kenya. The study was guided by four objectives: to determine the extent to which ESP affects the provision of class rooms in public secondary schools, to establish \tow ESP affects provision of boarding facilities, to assess the relationship between ESP funding and provision of teaching-learning resources, to examine the extent to which ESP funding influences provision of workshops.
The research questions were derived from these objectives. All literature reviewed related to the study was reviewed under the following categories; status of educational resources in public secondary schools, student teaching learning boarding facilities , relasnionship between ESP and teaching- learning , classrooms and the influence of ESP on laboratories and workshops.
A descriptive survey research design was used in the study. The population of the study consisted of 12 principals, 200 teachers and 1300 form three students. A self-administered questionnaire was used for the study to gather data from the sampled respondents. The collected data was classified, tabulated and analyzed by use of descriptive statistics. A positive relationship was obtained with a correlation coefficient of 0.8110 for principals and 0.750 for teachers.
From the study the following major findings were made: that the principals and school management boards had attended seminars and workshops in school funds management, and principlas had guidelines on documentation of ESP funds. Also monitoring agencies from both the ministry of education and ministry of public works were practised to ensure that structural standards were maintained .
The study recommends that teachers and the head teachers need to be trained to ensure that they have the right skills to manage school funds. The study made the following suggestions for further study:a comparative study on the factors affecting students' academic performance in the Arid and Semi Arid Lands ( ASAL ); a study on contribution of ESP funding on access in public secondary schools to be conducted to cover a wider scope not only a county. | en_US |
