| dc.description.abstract | The process of project implementation involves successful development and introduction of projects in the organization. The project implementation process is complex, usually requiring simultaneous attention to a wide variety of human, budgetary, and technical variables. The general objective of this study was to evaluate risk factors influencing the performance of projects in Kenya National Library Service. Specifically, the study sought to establish the influence of Information technology risk factor on the performance of projects in Kenya National Library Service, assess the influence of supply chain risk factor on the performance of projects in Kenya National Library Service, establish the influence of customer demand risk factor on the performance of projects in Kenya National Library Service and to establish the influence of human resource risk factor on the performance of projects in Kenya National Library Service with specific reference to schools‟ book box project at Karatina branch. This study adopted descriptive survey design. The target population of this study comprised of all Karatina branch KNLS employees, teachers and school committee members of the schools benefiting from school book box project. A sample of 245 respondents was selected using stratified random sampling to group respondents into three strata. This study used stratified random sampling whereby the respondents were divided into three strata of KNLS employees, teachers and school committee members and then simple random sampling was used in each category to select the respondents. This study used primary data. Data collection methods used included a set of structured questionnaires. Data was analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively and presented descriptively and illustrated by use of tables and charts. Information was sorted, coded and input into the statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) for production of graphs, tables, descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The study findings indicated that employees from KNLS and schools participating in the box book project were concerned about the project performance so as to enhance the whole organizations performance. This was demonstrated by the extent of agreement with the statements in the questionnaire in support of the project performance. Results indicated that information technology, supply chain, customer demand and human resource risk factors influenced project performance positively. From the study; it was possible to conclude that there was increased and improved performance at KNLS due to effective management of the risk factors associated by any project. Results also led to a conclusion that training has increased efficiency and job satisfaction among the employees at KNLS hence the organizational performance at large. The study recommends that the management of KNLS should do thorough assessment of the organization‟s current practices, providing ongoing training in project management practices, and implementing the necessary controls that ensure compliance with these
