This study will evaluate the role of uroflowmetry in the diagnosis of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO) and lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). The study will also assess the outcome of the different surgical therapies for patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia by uroflowmetric values. This is a cross-sectional study of patients attending Kenyatta National Hospital's surgical outpatient clinics with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) suggestive of bladder outlet obstruction (BOO). The BOO is, in majority of cases, by an enlarged prostate. (1) All patients recruited shall undergo uroflowmetric assessment to determine objectively the cause of obstruction. Subsequent uroflowmetric measurements shall be carried out after the treatment given to the patients at 3,and 6 months respectively. The flow rates and symptom scores will be compared and analysed in all the surgical patients. The data will then be computed to assess the outcome of each of the surgical methods (Open prostatectomy vs TURP).en_US
