Surface antigens on haemoparasites and their relevance to protective immunity.
Abstract
Labelling by lactoperoxidase-catalysed iodination allowed the characterization of several antigens on the surface of adult Schistosoma mansoni. These antigens are shed into the medium by the worms and are also present on the surfaces of schistosomula and cercariae. Further investigations showed that the surface coat protein of salivary gland Trypanosoma brucei brucei has a molecular weight of 65 000 and is present in at least 2 antigenic forms
