The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of the learning materials on
learner achievement in number work activities of pre-school children in Kisumu East
sub county, Kisumu County. The research was carried out to find if there is any
relationship between learning materials and learner achievement in mathematic
(number work). The objective of this study were to examine the influence of type of
learning materials, availability of learning materials, the effect of learning materials
and the teacher’s use of learning materials on learner achievement in number work of
pre-schools in Kisumu East sub county, Kisumu county. The data was collected using
teacher, head teacher and parent questionnaire and observation schedules which were
administered in 10 schools ,to 10 headteaches,30 teachers,130 children’s and 60
parents both from public and private schools. Own made mathematic test was given to
130 pre-school children. The research used descriptive design. The quantitative data
was analyzed using descriptive statistics to determine the mean, frequency and
percentages. The finding of the study suggest that use of learning materials on
learning number work has appositive influence on learner achievement in number
work activities. The finding of this study can be used by pre-school teachers so as to
improve the learning of number work as a subject. The results can also be used as the
basis for further research on the difficulties experienced by children of pre-school in
number work.
