The left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) is the most affected vessel in coronary atherosclerosis. The incidence of this pathology is high in the developed world but low and rising in Africa.Intrinsic vessel factors such as wall thickness, luminal dimensions and degree of luminal stenosis are reported to account for up to fifty percent of the variability in the incidence of atherosclerosis. The influence of heart weight and size on these factors however,is controversial. These parameters have shown age, gender and ethnic differences but they remain largely unknown among the Kenyan population.
