Perceived Factors Influencing Employee Work Performance in the Law Society of Kenya
Abstract
Optimum results of work performance in an organization rests at the back of employees who have to
realize the importance of meeting the goals and objectives of an organization. Thus this study
investigated the factors perceived to influence employees’ work performance in the Law Society of
Kenya. A descriptive survey design was used. The target population included 30 staff of the Law
Society of Kenya. The study used primary data which was collected by a semi-structured
questionnaire. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and factor analysis. The study found that
employee motivation, employee satisfaction, employee commitment and the employee competence are
the four main factors which influences employees’ work performance at the Law Society of Kenya.
Further established that supervisors conduct a survey of customer satisfaction frequently in Law
Society of Kenya. Employee’s satisfaction improves employee motivation in the society and
commitment of the staff determines their pay and staff are rewarded when involved in planning
annually. The four major factors perceived to influence employee work performance were; employee
motivation, employee satisfaction, employee commitment and employee competence. It was revealed
that promotional opportunities influences employees satisfaction and supervisors also influences the
performance in an organisations to a great extent. Staff ensure that organization strategies are
implemented and organization competitiveness is high as they feel good about the organization and
what it stands for. Further the study concludes that payment influences employee satisfaction, staffs
are happy with co-worker’s relationship and staffs are satisfied with benefits they get from their work
as well as job security in their organization. The study recommends that the Law Society of Kenya
management should sustain rewarding processes and procedures to keep employees motivated in the
work place. The Law Society of Kenya management should develop effective ways of motivating its
employees such as increased payments, creating good working environment of employees and
improving the security. Further research should be conducted on the perceived factors affecting
employee performance of organisation in the private and public organization.
