dc.description.abstract | The antibiotic phenoxymethylpenicillin (penicillin V) is still a drug of choice as a prophylactic agent in rheumatic fever and in the treatment of otitis rneolo.ervslpelos and tonsillitis. Penicillin V is composed of the biologically important fused thiozolidine and beta-Iactam rings. These rings are unstable in aqueous media both at low and high pH values wherein they undergo hydrolysis as shown in Figure 1. The hydrolytic products have no antibacterial activity. | en |
